Kinja'd!!!

I bought the G35x nearly 10 years ago. Did I think I’d own a single car for so long? No. Can I bear to let her go? No.

Do I want newer tech? Yes. B etter fuel economy? Yes. More power? Always.

There have been some significant repairs in the past and I anticipate more in the future. L ast year I had the front driver door replaced (the photo makes the newer paint quite obvious). Soon I’ll need to do the same for the front passenger one . The exhaust rusted through and had a midnight hour fix at a 24/7 garage where they welded a tube to connect the muffler and cat. Front brakes are sticking and probably need new calipers. The bolts holding the p lastic undertray have rusted and I replaced them with zipties.

At a certain point doing so many repairs on a 14-year-old vehicle will become pointless. But that won’t stop me.

Yeah, I keep throwing money at my Jeep, although much more egregiously and with far less financial sense. But you love what you love.

It’s a handsome car. I very nearly bought a lightly used G37s manual in 2012.

I’ve had my M3 for 8 years and she’s 12 years old. Hard to let the good ones go.

I’ve had mine for 6 years now, and she turns 10 this October. Plan to do the rod bearings sometime before someone else has a say in the way I spend my money.

I’m in the same situation with my wife’s ‘03 Liberty. She bought it used in 2004 and i f I totaled receipts for the last five years we’ve probably put $3k into it. Not horrible  considering its age, but I’m ready for her to get something new.

How far should I take mine before I get them replaced? 150k? 200? =) Honestly, both of those milestones are unlikely now that she only gets out once, maybe twice, a week.

I really thought I’d be jumping from car to car in order to have different experiences. Always wanted an STI, M3, S4, etc. But then I got into bikes and spent more time playing with those.

Good cars are good!

I’ve got 49k on mine now, so it might be a little early, but I sort of just want to do it for peace of mind. That and it’ll make me worry less about driving it. Been trying to make an effort to drive it at least once a week. I think once it’s a garage attached to a house, I’ll be more inclined to drive it more

My family sold our 2006 last year. We were the original owners.  We had the exhaust rust out as well!  Otherwise, the only issues we ever had were brake calipers and the power front seat gear failing.  Fortunately that gear was super easy to replace.  I still miss the car.  Th sightlines were fantastic (such a short dashboard), it was fun to drive, and still had just enough tech.  Standard bluetooth and keyless in 2006, as well as HID headlamps was pretty ahead of it’s time.

Yup, lots of fun to drive and the AWD system works well in the snow. I do wish the Bluetooth supported phone audio as well as phone calls. I looked into getting a newer Bluetooth module but read some things about continuous battery drain.

What kind of mileage did you have on your ‘ 06?

I am fairly certain the annual repairs are still less than annual car payments.

That's exactly what I tell my better half. Still, if I tally up all the repairs I'm looking at close to 1/3rd of the car's value.

Money saved on car payments can be spent on other things. Dream vacation, new kitchen, etc.

She’ll listen to you if you explain it this way.

We sold with around 130k on it. I don’t miss burning mp3 cds to listen to music. I mostly listened to satellite radio when I had that car though.

One of my first snow packed road experiences was in that car. Hit the snow switch and it made for some fun controllable drifts.
